How can I help the Freehold Memorial Day Parade?
We are so glad you asked that! There are several ways that you can help the Freehold Memorial Day Parade Committee keep the parade running smoothly:
- Every month (excepting December, June, July, and August) the Freehold Memorial Day Parade Committee, in conjunction with a local restaurant, hosts a fundraiser dinner. These tend to be on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, unless that falls on Thanksgiving week. For these fundraisers, simply print out a flyer that you can find in the "Fundraiser/Sponsorship Info" page on this website, and go enjoy a great meal. When you pay your check, give the flyer to your server and they will make sure that a percentage of your bill will be donated to the Parade. It does not cost you anything extra, other than going out for dinner!
- We are always looking for volunteers to help with the parade - and this includes school aged students! We will provide Community Service Hours to any student that comes out to volunteer for us. Simply come to the corner of Brinkerhoff Avenue and Main Street at 7:45 am on Memorial Day wearing something that denotes your school, sign in, and be given a job for the day. Most students will simply be holding a sign and walking the parade route, so dress comfortably and for the weather. In addition, for the last several years we have hosted a volunteer competition to see which middle or high school in the Freehold Area has the most community minded students. The school that provides the most volunteers will receive a trophy, and all of the student volunteers from that school will get a customized t-shirt to show off their bragging rights for winning.
- We are always looking for military in dress uniform to march in the parade, either alongside the caisson that precedes the parade, or to carry a flag in our Lead Color Guard. If you know of any service member who might be willing to do this, please send them our way! If they do not know if they can come in advance of the parade, that is okay; we would love to have them, even of they come at the last minute. Meet at the corner of Brinkerhoff Avenue and Main Street at 9 am - there is no such thing as too much military!
- If you are really interested in helping with the parade, consider joining our Parade Committee. Contact us for more information!
